The North Carolina Association of County Veteran Service Officers (NCACVSO) is dedicated to empowering the frontline advocates who ensure veterans and their families receive the benefits they’ve earned through service.
By providing County Veteran Service Officers (VSOs) across North Carolina with comprehensive education, advanced training, shared resources, and enhanced statewide coordination, we elevate the quality and consistency of support available to those who have served.
Navigating VA benefits is rarely straightforward. Many veterans and their families face confusion, delays, and misinformation when trying to access the benefits they’ve earned. These challenges are often amplified in rural areas, where resources and support may be limited. County Veterans Service Officers (VSOs), however, play a vital role in bridging these gaps, helping veterans navigate an otherwise overwhelming and complex system.

The NCACVSO is a non-partisan, non-profit organization committed to upholding our nation’s sacred promise to its veterans by empowering County Veteran Service Officers (VSOs) to deliver exceptional, compassionate support to veterans and their families.
We achieve this through:
To be the premier professional association in North Carolina that cultivates a network of highly skilled, resilient, and adaptable County Veteran Service Officers who excel in an ever-changing landscape. We envision a future where every VSO is fully supported with cutting-edge education, collaborative opportunities, and reliable resources – enabling them to provide seamless, dignified access to earned benefits and honoring our veterans with the highest standard of service and respect.
The North Carolina Association of County Veterans Service Officers (NCACVSO) was founded to unify, educate, and strengthen County Veteran Service Officers serving veterans and their families across North Carolina.
Planning for the Association began in the fall of 1986, led by Patsy Womack and supported by county VSOs who recognized the need for collaboration, shared standards, and professional development.
NCACVSO was formally chartered in January 1987. The first official conference and organizational
meeting was held on October 10, 1987, at the Holiday Inn West in Asheville, North Carolina, where the Constitution and By-Laws were adopted and the Association’s first officers were elected.
